Welcome

You’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or lost. You’re stressed and dissatisfied in your relationships but can’t seem to pinpoint why or how to change the dynamic. You’ve often felt like you don’t really belong with your friends, family, or peers. Maybe you’ve avoided therapy in the past because a part of you secretly (or not so secretly!) feels that you “should” be able to figure this out on your own. You’ve exhausted yourself trying other methods that have left you struggling with chronic worry, intense feelings of responsibility, and the painful sensation that “something is wrong with me.”

I work with adults 25+ as they come into their power to live a balanced life with healthy, fulfilling relationships. My clients feel seen, empowered, challenged, and relieved. We work together in a supportive and affirming environment to help you feel more peaceful, confident and content as you navigate through life and your inner world.

I’m a trauma-informed Therapist with a focus on treating anxiety, people-pleasing, over-achieving, and relational and spiritual wounds who can confidently guide you towards your goals of growth and healing. My approach is attachment-based and holistic. I am directive and collaborative- meaning that I don’t just sit there in silence and expect you to talk about your week (unless, of course, that’s what you need that day). I integrate approaches from a few modalities, including EFIT, EMDR, DBT, poly vagal theory, IFS, and hypnosis to help you gain awareness, insight, and build skills.

I enjoy working with helping professionals, and those that suffer from Eldest Daughter syndrome (whether you’re actually the eldest daughter or not). I also provide an affirming space for my fellow LGBTQ+/Queer community, and neurodivergent individuals.

Meet Kayla.

I live with my wife and our two cats in Grand Rapids, MI, but spent the last 6 years in Waynesville, NC. I earned my B.A. from Arcadia University in 2010 and my M.S.W. and Evidenced-based Trauma Treatment Certificate from Michigan State University in 2018. I’ve had the pleasure of living throughout the country while working an interesting variety of jobs and meeting people from all walks of life. My 8 years of mental health experience includes working with adults, teens, children, and families in both outpatient and intensive outpatient community mental health programs. I’ve also provided therapy in a domestic violence shelter and worked on pilot programs to facilitate trauma intervention groups in schools. In the past I’ve worked for State of Montana government to improve Native American foster care family recruitment, retention and training; lawyers for a small township to improve blighted/abandoned properties; and worked for several years in the retail and food service industries. I love working with people to shine a light on their strengths and help them find their place in the world.

Outside of work, I like to spend time exploring nature, live music, and making life better for my cats. My medium-term goals are to improve at baking and join a bowling league.
